Track Fire Near Newark Penn Station Snags NJ TRANSIT Service
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- NJ TRANSIT service between Manhattan and Newark was briefly shut down Thursday afternoon, after a track fire outside Newark Penn Station.
The track fire prompted a hold on all trains at the Newark depot around 3:30 p.m. All traffic from Newark Penn Station and the Midtown Manhattan Penn Station was halted, officials said.
Chopper 2 was over the scene Thursday afternoon as firefighters were at work. The fire appeared to be out by 5 p.m.
As of 4 p.m., service had resumed, but 45-minute delays persisted on the North East Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, and Raritan Valley lines.
PATH Trains between Newark and the World Trade Center station were also delayed as a result of the track fire.
