Off-Duty NJ Corrections Officer Opens Fire During Struggle With Suspect Allegedly Trying To Break Into Car
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities are investigating a shooting in New Jersey when police say an off-duty corrections officer pulled out his gun when someone was allegedly trying to break into his car.
It happened around 5:30 a.m. Friday near Lindsley Avenue and Crown Street.
The Essex Country Prosecutor's Office says the officer and suspect got into a fight and during the struggle, the officer fired one round from his service weapon.
The bullet did not hit anyone. The suspected was taken into custody.
