Newark Airport Reopens After United Flight's Emergency Landing
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Newark Liberty International Airport has reopened after a United plane had to make an emergency landing Saturday morning.
Officials say the flight left LaGuardia Airport around 8:30 a.m. and was heading for Houston, but it experienced a mechanical issue upon take-off. The flight was then diverted to Newark.
The plane blew a tire when it landed, and officials say there was "other structural damage that forced closure of the runway."
The passengers deplaned on the runway and were taken to the terminal by bus.

According to Port Authority officials, there were a few minor injuries. Further details have not yet been released.
There were no arrivals or departures at the airport for about an hour, starting around 8:45 a.m.
The airport reopened around 9:40 a.m. Delays are expected.
The emergency landing comes just two weeks after a plane skidded off the runway at Newark, forcing the airport to temporarily ground all other planes. In that incident, the aircraft's tires blew out when it hit the runway.
