New Jersey Gang Member Admits To Plotting Against Witnesses From Jail
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A street gang member accused of planning to kill rival gang members admitted Wednesday that he plotted from jail to intimidate or kill suspected government witnesses in those cases.
Federal prosecutors say Julio Adalberto Orellana-Carranza pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Newark to conspiring to engage in a racketeering enterprise. The 27-year-old Plainfield man has admitted being a member of an MS-13 set operating in Union County.
Orellana-Carranza admitted that he and other MS-13 members plotted to kill members of rival gangs on the streets of Plainfield in June 2011. After being arrested on those charges, he admitted plotting with his fellow gang members to intimidate and/or kill people they thought were cooperating with law enforcement
Orellana-Carranza faces up to 20 years in prison and will remain detained pending his sentencing on May 4.
