Newark Firefighters Battle Second Big Blaze Within 24 Hours

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Firefighters remain on the scene of a second major fire to hit Newark within 24 hours.

The latest fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kearny Steel Container in the city's Ironbound section. The warehouse stores steel barrels and plastic, officials said.

It took approximately 100 firefighters from the city and neighboring towns more than three hours to get the upper hand.

The fire impacted some service on freight train lines behind the warehouse, but no commuter lines are affected.

No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.

The blaze comes after a fire tore through an abandoned rooming house on Cypress Street Monday. Firefighters are checking the debris for any human remains and the cause is under investigation.
