Election 2023: What to know for New York and New Jersey voters

Polls open for Election Day; Key races across our area

NEW YORK -- New York and New Jersey voters are casting their ballots Tuesday in the Nov. 7 general election.

Early voting wrapped up over the weekend, with just under 86,000 people voting in New York City.

We have some key dates and deadlines to know before hitting the polls.

When do polls open and close?

In New York, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 7.

New Jersey polls also open at 6 a.m. but close an hour earlier at 8 p.m.

What's on the ballot?

New York City voters will cast their ballots in this year's City Council races, including the 43rd District in Brooklyn and the 19th District in Queens

Outside the city, voters on Long Island will choose Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone's successor and whether Yonkers Mayor Mike Spanno will serve an unprecedented fourth term

Absentee Ballots: Absentee ballots must be requested online and by mail by October 23, or requested in-person by November 6. Click here to request a ballot.

Voter Registration: Voter registration ends October 28. Click here to check your registration status.

Early Voting: Early voting will be held from October 28 to November 5. Election Day is November 7, when polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Note: Early voting hours and locations often differ from Election Day.)
