New York City Restaurant Week, Broadway Week and more offering winter discounts

NYC restaurants, theaters and other attractions offering winter discounts

NEW YORK -- Starting Tuesday, it's New York City Restaurant Week.

And there's more good news - Broadway Week, when you can snag two-for-one tickets, also starts Tuesday.

It's looking like New Yorkers and guests of the city have lots to enjoy, as these deals will last for the next four weeks.

This is all part of the city's Winter Outing program, which is set to encourage people to get outside and explore the city during a time you may want to stay bundled up inside. But with so many great deals for restaurants, Broadway shows, and museums - it's going to be really easy to find something you love.

The list of things to do in New York City is lengthy, so to help narrow it down, how about some big discounts?

"When we come to New York, we love to go to restaurants, the ballet, the opera," one person said.

Starting Tuesday, Restaurant Week - nearly 500 restaurants across all five boroughs are offering special menus with $30 lunch options, and three course dinner options that will run you either $45-60.

"Big fan of Restaurant Week. Big fan of supporting local businesses. I'm from Staten Island, New York. I used to work at a café in Staten Island, they've actually been a part of Restaurant Week themselves.

Broadway Week is also starting Tuesday. You can get two-for-one tickets for more than 20 shows, including favorites like "Aladdin," "Moulin Rouge," "Wicked" and "Chicago."

And it's also "Must-See Week," which means you can get two-for-one tickets to different museums, performing arts venues and attractions, like the One World Observatory or the Museum of Modern Art.

"We're still coming out of a pandemic, so I think it's good to get people out, moving, being social, and lift the spirits, honestly," said Hell's Kitchen resident Anissa Cervantez.

CBS2's Zinnia Maldonado sat down with the city's team behind the event, and they're hoping all the deals get both tourists and residents out and about.

"We always want to, you know, remind people January and February is a good time to visit. So this is our, sort of, ultimate savings period come January and February. Get off the couch. You have a lot of really great deals for hotels for dining, attractions and entertainment," said Tiffany Townsend of NYC & Company.

"A great deal of attractions and just cultural institutions around the city. So you have everything from the iconic things like Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Botanical Garden, but then you also have things like Rise NYC, which is a very cool flight simulation experience that gives you a bird's eye view. Then you also have what's new to the program, such as the Museum of Broadway that just opened this past fall," Townsend added.

And despite the term "week," all of these deals will run until Feb. 12.

If you've been thinking about planning a staycation, now is the time, because during this period a number of city hotels are offering discounts as well.

Make sure you get your tickets ASAP, because discounted tickets for some Broadway shows such as "Hamilton" and "The Lion King" are already sold out.
