Iconic "2024" numerals arrive for New Year's Eve in Times Square

NEW YORK -- The countdown is on for New Year's Eve in Times Square, where the giant "2024" numerals arrived Wednesday.

The 7-foot numbers have been on a cross-country tour in a 2024 Kia EV9, starting out in Los Angeles and making stops at events in Tucson and Philadelphia.

They weigh more than 1,000 pounds and they're made up of 588 lightbulbs. The ball itself weighs another 12,000 pounds.

The numerals will be on display in the Broadway Plaza between 46th and 47th streets until Friday morning.

Soon after, they will take their place on top of 1 Times Square, where they will be illuminated at midnight on New Year's Eve.

New Yorkers and tourists from all over will have a chance to take their picture with the numbers and write their wishes on the confetti that's set to rain down as the ball drops.
