New Jersey's 3 Largest Cities Team Up To Buy Body Cameras For Police Officers
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - New Jersey's three largest cities have teamed up to buy body cameras for their police officers to wear.
The cities of Paterson, Newark and Jersey City pooled together money to buy 1,100 body cams to split among the police departments.
"We started this conversation probably almost a year ago and it was prior to many of the high profile shootings that you've seen across the country," Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop told WCBS 880's Levon Putney. "People act differently when they know they're on camera. And that's something that we think is important and ultimately will make sure that people act properly on all sides of the conversation."
Fulop said now that the state approved the purchase, ey expect to have the body cameras on officers by late summer or early fall.
