New Jersey Woman Gets 12 Years In Carjacking, Kidnapping Case
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison Thursday after she admitted to carjacking a teen driver in an attempt to steal a baby the teen had given up for adoption.
Floribert Nava, of Wildwood, pleaded guilty in February, admitting that she used a fake gun on March 22, 2013, to carjack the then-17-year-old victim.
The 48-year-old tried forcing the teen to drive her from Wildwood to Philadelphia to steal the baby from its adoptive family.
The carjacking was thwarted when the teen victim crashed into a police car on the Ben Franklin Bridge to get a police officer's attention.
The victim told the court Thursday she suffers from depression and fear over the incident, The Press of Atlantic City reported.
