New Jersey Man Gets 18 Years For Police Chase On Routes 1 & 9
ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey man who led police on a car chase has received an 18-year prison sentence.
Dion Cromwell, 34, was convicted last month on eluding and resisting arrest charges. He must serve at least six years before he becomes eligible for parole under the sentence imposed Friday, Union County prosecutors said.
According to prosecutors, Cromwell, of Irvington, refused to stop for police officers on Routes 1 & 9 in Elizabeth. They said he continued to drive after hitting a metal guard rail, causing his car to spin around.
When the officers got out of their car and approached his vehicle, Cromwell sped toward one them before veering off and driving away.
