NJ Crossing Guard In Critical Condition After Being Hit By Car
BERGENFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A crossing guard is hospitalized in very critical condition after she was struck by a car while on duty in New Jersey.
It happened around 8 a.m. Tuesday on New Bridge Road in Bergenfield.
Jo-Ann Hans, 60, was filling in for the regular crossing guard in the area and assisting Congregation Beth Abraham during Rosh Hashanah services when she was hit.
"A car struck her and she flew about 30-feet and landed on the other side of the road," a witness named Robert said. "A bunch of people trying to attend to her and she had blood coming out of her mouth. She didn't look well at all."
Police were already on scene because of the services and rushed to help her.
Hans was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she is on life support, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported.
The driver -- a 63-year-old Bergenfield man -- was signaled to stop, according to witnesses, and he was issued a number of summonses, Schuck reported.
A blinding sun glare in the area may have been a factor, Schuck reported.
"In the morning there's a lot of sunlight and a lot of sun glare coming up this road so it's almost impossible to see people as they cross here," Robert said.
