New Book Shines Light On Life Of Former Luchese Boss "Little Al" D'Arco
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Mafioso Alfonso "Little Al" D'Arco was one of the first mob bosses to tell all when he bailed on the Luchese crime family in 1991.
D'Arco was a prized catch for the FBI author Jerry Capeci told WCBS 880's Irene Cornell.
"He had an incredible memory and he was the highest ranking gangster to flip when he did back in 1991. I mean, after he decided to flip Sammy Gravano followed him and it was kind of like an onslaught of gangsters who were looking to flip and make a better deal for themselves," Capeci said.
The new book by Capeci and Tom Robbins, "Mob Boss: The Life Of Little Al D'Arco," focuses on the mob turncoat.
What made D'Arco an extraordinary witness was that he was not trying to make a deal for himself. The government didn't even have a case against him Capeci said.
"He was just testifying because he believed that, believe it or not, the mob had become corrupt. Here it is we got a guy who is a gangster, who killed a couple people with his own hands, and was involved in ten murder plots, saying that the mob had become corrupt," Capeci explained.
D'Arco believed that bosses were killing people for all of the wrong reasons.
