National Action Network Honors Maya Angelou With Harlem March
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The National Action Network hosted a rally to honor the life of the late Maya Angelou on Saturday.
The poet died on Wednesday, at the age of 86, at her North Carolina home.
The rally began on West 145th Street at 9:30 a.m. Reverend Al Sharpton led a march that ended at Angelou's Harlem residence on West 120th Street.
Flowers and tributes were blanketed over the doorsteps of Angelou's New York City home.
National Action Network members spoke on the legacy of the late poet, civil rights activist and writer.
"Our dear sister Maya Angelou was one to talk about bringing peace and her words would insist on freedom, insist on peace," one person said.
