Naked Man In Wheelchair Charged In Attack On Fellow Nursing Home Patient
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 73-year-old man has been charged in connection with the beating of a 92-year-old man at a Madison, N.J. nursing home.
Madison police responded to the Pine Acres Nursing Home on Thursday to investigate reports that a patient assaulted another patient.
Officers found Richard Szabo, 73, sitting naked in a wheelchair outside the room of victim John Foster, 92, police said.
Foster was found in bed bleeding with head and facial injuries that he allegedly sustained from Szabo striking him several times using a leg support that was taken off his wheelchair, police said.
Police questioned Szabo and other witnesses at the nursing home and arrested him. Szabo was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Both Szabo and Foster were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
The motive for the attack was unclear, police said.
Szabo was released on his own recognizance and is due in court June 18.
