N.J. Lawmakers Furious After Report Questioning How Sandy Housing Funds Were Spent
MOONACHIE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two New Jersey lawmakers have called upon Gov. Chris Christie to respond to a government watchdog report questioning how the state spent millions in housing funds after Superstorm Sandy.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, the question is about how $43 million was spent and where the spending was documented.
The question is at the heart of an investigation by a federal watchdog.
"The state dropped the ball in monitoring appropriate use of federal funds," said U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.)
U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) knows some residents who have not yet finished rebuilding.
"There's still people out there that have needs, so this money that was squandered could've been used to do other things," he said.
The New Jersey State Attorney General's office claimed it did follow the rules when it comes to the funds.
