Apparent Murder-Suicide Reported In Lower Manhattan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Violence on a street has left two people dead.

Police say it appears it was a murder-suicide.

Police swarmed Greenwich and Morris Streets in Lower Manhattan a little after 9 a.m. after reports of shots being fired.

It happened just steps from a subway station.

According to the NYPD, when they arrived, they found a man in his 40s with a gunshot wound to the chest, and a 40-year-old woman shot twice in the head.

Neither of them survived.

CBS2's Kevin Rincon spoke with a construction worker near the scene who described what he heard.

"Boom, boom, boom. You see the guy go right to the ground," the worker said. "I see the, you see the hole right here, the other guy, they took him to the hospital."

It's being described as a murder-suicide, though it's not clear why it happened.
