MTA Asks NYC, State To Help Fund Trimmed-Down Budget
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The head of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has sent a letter to the city and state pleading for more help in funding its now $27 billion capital plan.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, the MTA has reduced its capital budget by more than $2 billion and Gov. Andrew Cuomo told NY1 he's now more than comfortable with the plan.
"We believe that this is a sound budget and the fat has been removed," Cuomo said.
The agency wants the city to kick in $3 billion with the state adding $8 billion.
"I'm willing to do my fair share," Cuomo said,
The governor insists riders should not have to bear an additional burden, Haskell reported.
Among other projects, the money would help pay for the next phase of the Second Avenue subway line.
A spokesperson for the city says it's already making it's largest contribution in recent history, Haskell reported.
