MTA: Manhattan-bound 7 train from Queens hits debris, stalls for 2 hours
NEW YORK -- Hundreds of subway riders were rescued Sunday after the FDNY says their train ran over debris, stranding them for hours.
The incident happened at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday as a 7 train was in a tunnel approaching Grand Central Terminal. The FDNY said about 750 people were on board, adding some of the cars became smoky.
CBS2 saw people getting off at the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue station in Queens after an emergency train eventually came.
"The train stopped and all of a sudden the emergency brakes ... I was in the back car of the train and then the next thing we see is another train pulling up behind us and they send us all the way back to Queens," one passenger said.
The MTA said 7 trains are still running, but with major delays in both directions.
