Man Gets 1 Year In Prison In West Side Highway Motorcycle Melee Case

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A biker was sentenced to a year in prison Wednesday in an infamous road rage case on the West Side Highway.

Clint Caldwell, who pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and first-degree riot in March, was setenced by a judge in lower Manhattan on Wednesday. He could spend a year behind bars, CBS2's Andrea Grymes reported.

Video of the incident made international headlines in September 2013. It showed a pack of motorcycle riders surrounding an SUV on the West Side Highway, chasing the vehicle for a distance and then pulling the driver out and beating him in Washington Heights.

The SUV driver was with his wife and daughter at the time of the attack. He was taken to the hospital for stitches to his face.

One of the bikers was seriously injured when the driver hit the gas to get away and ran him over.

Caldwell is one of nine defendants in the case who has pleaded guilty to charges.

Two others have open cases, including undercover NYPD Detective Wojciech Braszczok, who faced a judge Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing. Prosecutors have said Braszczok was caught on video participating in the attack by shattering the SUV's back window. He was off duty at the time.

His attorney has said his client will be exonerated.

Braszczok and another defendant are expected in court Monday.
