Montefiore Children's Hospital To Host Candy Exchange For Children With Diabetes
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Deciding what to do with all that Halloween candy can be a challenge for any parent-- but especially for those who have children with diabetes.
"We definitely don't want all that candy lying around," Dr. Rubina Heptulla told WCBS 880's Jim Smith.
Heptulla, chief of pediatric endocrinology at Montefiore Children's Hospital, says that's why Monday after school, they'll hold a special program so kids can exchange for toys.
"This actually gives them a good, healthy venue to get rid of it and learn about diabetes and diabetes management in a fun way," she said.
Heptulla said they want kids with diabetes to enjoy the Halloween fun with their peers, then remove the temptation.
