Monsey Park Closed Following Sunday Afternoon Bear Sighting
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Bears were spotted in a tree in Monsey, on Sunday.
A mamma bear and three cubs were seen in Manny Welder Park in Rockland County, CBS2 reported.
Ramapo Police said some kids chased the bears, prompting them to re-treat up into a tree.
Officers decided to close the park for the rest of the day.
Black bear sightings were also reported in Springfield, New Jersey over the weekend.
"In one of our residential areas the bear was actually seen going up a tree," Police Sgt. John Rachel told 1010 WINS' John Montone.
Wildlife experts say if you see a bear remain calm, do not run, make yourself look bigger by raising your arms over your head, avoid eye contact and make loud noises to try to scare it away, Montone reported.
