More NYC monkeypox vaccine appointments go online Aug. 4

NEW YORK -- The next round of monkeypox vaccine appointments in New York City will go online Thursday, the health department says.

City health officials say 23,000 first-dose appointments will be made available on the city's vaccine portal starting Thursday at 6 p.m.

Vaccine clinics will be open at the following locations:

The Bronx

  • Bronx High School of Science, 75 W. 205th St. (weekends only)
  • NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, 234 East 149th St.

Brooklyn

  • Science Skills Center High School, 49 Flatbush Ave. Ext. (weekends only)
  • The Livonia Clinic, 506 Livonia Ave.
  • The Jefferson Clinic, 1300 Flushing Ave.
  • NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, 686 New York Ave., T Building entrance at Clarkson Ave.

Manhattan

  • Chelsea Clinic, 303 Ninth Ave.
  • Central Harlem Clinic, 2238 Fifth Ave.
  • NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Gouverneur, 227 Madison St.

Queens

  • IS 125, 46-02 47 Ave. (weekends only)
  • Corona Clinic, 34-33 Junction Blvd.
  • Long Island City Clinic, 5-17 46th Rd.

Staten Island

  • NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Vanderbilt, 165 Vanderbilt Ave.

A clinic will also open in Times Square in the coming weeks.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday that New York City will receive 32,000 doses of the monkeypox vaccine in the coming weeks in the first of three additional installments.

The health department says the 9,000 remaining doses will be reserved for close contacts of known cases and patients who receive referrals from community partner organizations and health care providers.

The rest of New York state will get nearly 12,000 vaccines.

The number of cases continues to rise both in the city and across the country. There are more than 6,300 cases of monkeypox in the United States.

New York state is reporting more than 1,600 cases. Most of them -- 1,558 cases -- are in New York City.

There are 155 cases in New Jersey and 39 in Connecticut.

Meanwhile, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to invoke the Defense Production Act.

"This will help ramp up the manufacturing of monkeypox vaccines and give manufacturers the resources they need to make these vaccines available to more people at a much more accelerated rate," Gillibrand said.

She says the government needs to act now to ensure those who are affected have access to treatment.
