Missing Teen's Body Found In Wooded Area On Long Island
SHOREHAM, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The search for a missing teen has come to a tragic end in Suffolk County.
Nickolas Donnelly, 14, vanished Tuesday morning after leaving his Shoreham home to go out for a run. He was not carrying a phone or his ID.
His body was found just before 8 a.m. Wednesday in a wooded area near Royal Way, about a mile from his home, police said.
"He always greeted you with a smile on his face. And went out of his way to say hello. He was an excellent student, great athlete in two sports -- wrestling and baseball. He had many friends and will be missed by his two brothers," the teen's uncle, Donald A. Donnelly, Jr., said. "My brother and wife are waiting for the results from the Medical Examiner's Office and they would like to express their gratitude for all the love and support from the community."
The cause of death appears non-criminal, according to Suffolk County Police.
Community members joined police, who were using K-9s and helicopters, in the search.
