2 Members Of Mets Organization Test Positive For Coronavirus
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Mets were supposed to play the Marlins in Miami on Thursday, but the game was postponed after two members of the Mets organization tested positive for COVID-19.
It comes as the team was getting ready to begin a subway series with the Yankees on Friday night.
With the two COVID cases, the Mets become the fifth team with players and/or staff members to test positive during the season, joining the Marlins, Phillies, Reds and Cardinals.
The unidentified player and staff member are spending the night in Miami for further testing, and contact tracing is being conducted.
The others have flown back to New York where safety procedures will be adhered to.
In addition to Thursday's postponed game, Friday's opening game of the subway series has been postponed with the rest of the series up in the air.
That brought about an interesting and important question for Yankees manager Aaron Boone -- if they are able to come back this weekend, would he feel safe taking the team to Citi Field and playing?
"I'll feel safe if it gets to the point where we're playing. I would feel like the due diligence done. The safety is the first priority, so I would, yes," Boone said.
We've seen entire series wiped out after positive tests, so we'll see how quickly the Mets and Yankees return to the field.
