Metro-North Railroad Fires 9 Rookie Conductors In Cheating Scandal
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Metro-North Railroad has fired nine rookie conductors and reassigned three others after an investigation into cheating on an important safety exam.
At least one of the conductors got a hold of the written test, took photos using a smartphone and later posted the images online, sources told CBS 2.
The safety exam is designed to determine conductors' knowledge of signals, curves and speed limits along the railroad, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.
The 12 employees involved represent an entire incoming class of conductors, CBS 2 reported.
Many riders are concerned.
"My kids ride the train so it's very scary," one man said.
"People are going to get hurt by it, somebody's going to have to get punished for it," another man said.
Investigators are looking to see if any other alleged cheating took place.
