Metro-North Asks Riders For Patience As Infrastructure Upgrades Are Made
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Metro-North Railroad is asking its passengers to be patient as improvements are made to the system's infrastructure.
It's part of a trade-off. Metro-North President Joe Giulietti has said the updated infrastructure will allow the trains to run faster.
But as WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, some rail riders are still frustrated.
"Trains are still not running on time as much as they should," said John Hartwell, vice chair of the Connecticut Commuter Rail Council. "They're overcrowded."
Metro-North said it will be two to three years before much of the work is done.
The railroad has updated its schedules to make them more realistic.
Hartwell said he has confidence in Metro-North's president.
"Joe Giulietti and his senior staff are trying very, very hard to turn this railroad around," Hartwell said.
