NJ Sen. Menendez Outlines Plans For Transit Infrastructure Improvements
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey lawmaker unveiled plans Friday to address the nation's transit infrastructure needs.
As 1010 WINS' Rebecca Granet reported, Sen. Bob Menendez said the transportation and infrastructure in the U.S., as compared to other parts of the world, is appalling.
"It's amazing to me that in Japan I can ride on a bullet train that goes much faster and I never feel a moment of shaking on it," he said. "I go on the Acela and it reminds me of Presley's 'Shake Rattle and Roll.' It shouldn't be that way."
That's why the senator has outlined a plan for a public transportation reauthorization bill with nine core principles, including the recommendation of a six-year bill funded at $115 billion, Granet reported.
"Creating a six-year timeline will provide transit agencies with the certainty they need to build big projects," Menendez said.
Menendez added he believes this framework can be a foundation to a bi-partisan bill.
