Police: Driver Hit Motorcyclist, Took Off In Mastic, Long Island

MASTIC, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was arrested Monday after she allegedly left the scene of a crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Mastic, Long Island.

Blanca Rivera was driving her Honda Accord west on Eleanor Avenue in Mastic when she turned left onto Clover Street around 1:35 p.m. Monday, according to Suffolk County police. Motorcyclist Glen Bruskill was behind Rivera at the time, and tried to pass Rivera's vehicle on the left when he was struck, police said.

Rivera drove off and was apprehended a short time later by Suffolk County police Seventh Precinct Officer John Levasseur, police said.

Brunskill, 47, of Southampton, was airlifted by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, where he was in serious condition, police said.

Rivera, 30, of Mastic, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident without reporting involving serious physical injury, and was to be held at the Suffolk County police Fourth Precinct. She was to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, police said.
