Police: 3 Arrested After Attempt To Deliver 300 Pounds Of Marijuana
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Three men were arrested after allegedly attempting to deliver illegal marijuana to a building in Greenwich Village, police said.
Manhattan North Narcotics officers arrested Patrick Johnson, Matthew Parrigo and Christopher Bender, of New York City, after they were spotted carrying a large wooden crate filled with 150 pounds of marijuana into a building at 144 Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village on Feb. 26, police said.
Police then uncovered another 150-pound crate of the drug after searching a delivery truck on scene in connection to the incident, police said.
Bridget Brennan, a New York City special narcotics prosecutor, told WCBS 880 she believes the drugs were sent by air from California to Newark and delivered by a courier van to the city. Detectives had been following the shipment and knew when it was arriving and sent a drug-sniffing dog to confirm.
"It's a huge amount of marijuana and it's worth a lot of money," Brennan said. "If it was going to be sold in street level amounts by the ounce, it would probably be worth up to a million dollars."
The three suspects have been charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana, according to police.
