Suicide Investigation Leads To Major Cocaine Delivery Service Bust
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Detectives investigating a suicide from a West Street roof found cocaine in the apartment, and a cell phone which led to three men described as major cocaine dealers.
"It's alleged the deliveries took place in the aisles of Duane Read and CVS pharmacies in an apparent effort to elude potential physical surveillance by law enforcement," Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said.
As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported, the men allegedly used car services to deliver and charged double the street price.
"And they paid that apparently for the convenience of delivery and for the purity of the product," Vance said.
Manhattan South Narcotics Captain Dan Dooley said it started with the dead cocaine user's phone.
"Supplied that number to an undercover, and the undercover wound up cold calling the dealer, and they started from there," he said.
Kenny 'Jay' Hernandez, Felix 'Jake' Hernandez, and Oscar Almonte were charged with selling $75,000 worth of cocaine.
Vance said 18 key customers were rounded up including an executive at Chipotle, and a FOX Business News producer.
