Man Who Impersonated A Federal Agent Multiple Times Sentenced To Prison
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A man who admitted to impersonating a federal agent more than once is going to jail.
Carl Osborne, 37, had not earned a law enforcement badge of any type, but that didn't stop him from acting like he did, according to WCBS 880's Irene Cornell.
Osborne pled guilty to impersonating a federal agent from the Department of Homeland Security, using a disguise that was complete with a uniform, fake gun and a vehicle equipped with lights and sirens, Cornell reported.
On five separate occasions over nine months, Osborne admitted that he used his phony federal clout to pull over motorists in the Bronx and Westchester, illegally detaining drivers.
During prosecution, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said the public needs to be protected from any such impersonators of federal agents who are clearly up to no good.
Osborne was sentenced to six months in prison, six months of home confinement, followed by three years of probation.
