Man Shot To Death Outside Bar In Times Square

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was shot to death early Tuesday morning outside of a bar in Times Square.

Teams of investigators scoured the sidewalks of Seventh Avenue near 49th Street for evidence, part of the usually bustling block that is now a murder scene.

Police said it was just before 4 a.m. when 33-year-old Perseus Salichs was leaving Tonic bar when a man walked up to him, shooting him once in the head.

A woman, who asked not to be identified, said she saw it happen and ran over to help.

"I'm covered in blood. My arms and hands were covered in blood," she said. "I had him in my arms. I was also trying to help the woman whoever was with him, I don't know what relation she was to him, but take his pulse, I tried to start CPR but she was still all over him, trying to hold him."

Friends of the victim could be seen talking to police, eyes red from crying while trying to explain what happened, WCBS 880's Mike Smeltz reported. Salichs later died at Bellevue Hospital.

The suspect was seen running north up Seventh Avenue, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported.

Investigators are still combing the area and Tonic bar for surveillance video and evidence as they try to zero in on the suspect.

"I literally work around the corner," Midtown worker Jakiera White told CBS2's Janelle Burrell. "It's kinda frightening"

"It's alarming and kinda makes you scratch your head," said Midtown worker Joseph Naggiar.

Sources tell CBS2 the victim and the suspect just happened to see each other Monday night. It's not clear why they had been at odds.
