Man Killed By F Train Near West 4th Street

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was killed by the F train Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened on a downtown train near the West 4th Street station in the West Village around 3:30 p.m.

The NYPD said the man was standing on a step on the outside of the train, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported. When the train entered a tunnel, the man hit a pillar and lost his grip. He was killed instantly.

Passengers waited on the train for about an hour before it was evacuated, CBS2 reported.

"Everybody really kept it in perspective. As much as we were hot and tired, everybody was really sad about why we were even there," one passenger said.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.
