Man Found Dead At Scene Of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn Apartment Fire

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was found dead early Saturday at the scene of a fire in an apartment building in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.

Police responded shortly after midnight Saturday to the fire on the third floor of the building at 1759 73rd St. in Brooklyn.

Firefighters put out the blaze, and responding officers found Joseph Barbara, 38, unconscious and unresponsive at the scene.

Paramedics pronounced Barbara dead at the scene, police said. The New York City Medical Examiner's office will determine the cause of his death, and the city Fire Marshal was probing the cause of the fire early Saturday.

The investigation was ongoing as of mid-morning Saturday.
