Police Investigating After Man Fatally Stabbed In Face At Brooklyn Apartment
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was stabbed to death in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Sunday afternoon.
Police said 54-year-old Russell Holdip was stabbed in the face at an apartment on Grant Avenue around 1:45 p.m.
EMS rushed Holdip to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The daughter of Holdip's girlfriend told 1010 WINS' Roger Stern that her sister was the one who killed him.
Sharlene Kelly said her sister, who is schizophrenic, stabbed her mother's boyfriend after she refused to give her a can of soda.
"She was actually coming after me, but because she couldn't get into the room that I was in and he happened to be lying on the bed sleeping, she stabbed him up instead," Kelly said.
The sister, Bernette Singleton, then fled the home, Stern reported.
Kelly said Singleton was recently hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation, but was released three days ago.
Neighbor Freddie Castillo told 1010 WINS Holdip was a nice guy.
"I see him go to work...it's a shame," he said. "I used to see him in the afternoon and he'd say 'hello, how're you doing.'"
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
