Man Fatally Shot In Newark Apartment Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man was fatally shot at an apartment building in Newark Friday night, police said.

According to Essex County prosecutors, 35-year-old Alim Abdul-Ghafer was found with a gunshot wound just after 8:30 p.m. by officers responding to reports of shots fired in the 200 block of Washington Street.

Police said officers found Abdul-Ghafer unresponsive in the building's hallway. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A motive remains under investigation, and no other injuries were reported.

So far, no arrests have been made.
