Yonkers Man Dies, Woman Hospitalized After Boat Capsizes In Westchester Co.
NEW CASTLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 53-year-old Yonkers man has died and a woman is hospitalized after their rowboat capsized in a New York reservoir.
The Journal News reports that boat capsized early Sunday in the New Croton Reservoir in Westchester County.
Investigators estimate that the rowboat capsized between 3 and 5 a.m.
According to DEP spokesman Adam Bosch, there were life vests on board the boat but the two people were not wearing them.
Their identities were not immediately released.
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection is investigating the accident. The department operates the reservoir, which provides drinking water to the five boroughs.
The reservoir is about 22 miles north of New York City.
