Police: Man Charged In Deadly Brawl Outside East Harlem McDonald's
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bronx man has been charged following a brawl that turned deadly in East Harlem on Friday morning.
Jesus Santiago, 46, is facing second-degree murder, attempted murder and assault charges after a verbal dispute turned into a physical altercation that led to the stabbing of a man and a woman.
Police were called to the McDonald's at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue shortly after 8 a.m. Friday.
The incident began with a tug of war between two women over what appeared to be an umbrella.
Two men each joined the women – ages 46 and 36, police said. One man took out a box cutter, which the other man grabbed, police said.
Afterward, Santiago stabbed the man with the box cutter, as well as the 46-year-old woman, police said.
Both were taken to Harlem Hospital where the man was pronounced dead. Police said the woman remained in critical condition Saturday.
Santiago and the uninjured woman were both taken into custody following the fight.
Police said the weapon was recovered at the scene.
