Man Arrested In 2 Bank Robberies In Suffolk County

HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man was arrested and charged Friday with robbing two banks on Long Island.

The first robbery happened shortly before the suspect, Thomas Bosco, was arrested, Suffolk County police said.

Around 1 p.m., a man walked into the Roslyn Savings Bank at 693 East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station, police said. He threatened a teller with a handgun, demanded money, and hopped into a Jeep sport-utility vehicle and sped off after receiving cash, police said.

First Precinct Officers James Spoerel and John Farley responded to a radio call and began looking for the vehicle. They found a Jeep matching the description of the getaway vehicle on Route 110 in East Farmingdale and pulled over the driver on Fulton Street in Farmingdale, police said.

Bosco was arrested on the spot, police said.

Suffolk County police Pattern Crime Unit detectives also learned that Bosco was a suspect in the robbery of a Capital One Bank in Bohemia this past Wednesday, police said.

Bosco works as a freelance handyman, and is suspected to have stolen tools from clients on job sites in Melville and Mount Sinai, police said.

Bosco, 30, of Ronkonkoma, was charged with robbery and grand larceny. He was set to appear for an arraignment in Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to call Suffolk County Pattern Crime Unit detectives at (631) 852-6295.
