Man, 36, shot to death on corner in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn
NEW YORK -- Police and a community are searching for answers after a Brooklyn man was killed in broad daylight.
Witnesses say a shooter fired multiple times into the victim's chest and no words were ever exchanged.
Pain and disbelief are swirling around a Bedford-Stuyvesant block, where a 36-year-old man was gunned down early Wednesday morning.
Police haven't released his identify, but friends are confounded over what the motive could be, describing the victim as a doting father to a 1-year-old boy.
"I know his mother and his sister. They are devastated because they were a very close family," Darlene Dunlap said.
Neighbors said the victim was standing on the corner of Nostrand and Gates avenues and was about to move his black Honda Accord from a no parking zone when the shooter approached him just before 7:30 a.m.
A man buying coffee nearby who didn't want to appear on camera described to CBS2 what he heard.
"I heard the first shot. I looked out the window. After the second shot is when he went down but the guy shot him another three more times," the witness said.
The witness said the victim appeared to be targeted and there was no argument or dispute.
"You can't see his face. He had a black hoodie on. It looked planned," the witness said of the gunman.
Shootings in New York City are down this year compared to 2022, but it has been a bloody last few days. From Saturday to Monday, 27 people were shot, compared to 15 during the same time last year.
"The more they try to get rid of the guns, it seems like more guns coming. So what are we going to do?" Dunlap lamented.
Police say no arrests have been made in this shooting and that the suspect ran off on foot.
