NYC Man Gets 28 Years For Killing Ex-Girlfriend, Hiding Body In Car

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Queens man who admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend and hiding her bloody body in the trunk of her car is heading to prison.

Prosecutors say 31-year-old Luis Zambrano was sentenced Tuesday to 28 years behind bars in the killing of Angie Escobar.

Angie Escobar's body was found Sept. 10, 2015 in the abandoned car in Whitestone, Queens. The vehicle was parked near 22nd Avenue and Murray Street. Authorities say she had 80 stab wounds.

The medical examiner determined she had died about four days earlier.

Zambrano locked Escobar inside the trunk and then fled to Virginia, where he was arrested on Sept. 18.

The indictment said Escobar, a 28-year-old mother of two, was repeatedly stabbed with scissors while trying to end her relationship with the defendant.

Zambrano says that demonic possession and trust issues led to the killing. He says he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and barely remembers what happened.
