Long Island Man Accused Of Pretending To Be Doctor To Get Oxycodone, Xanax

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man appeared in court Thursday on charges that he pretended to be a doctor in order to get fraudulent prescriptions for Oxycodone and Xanax filled.

Adeel Riaz, 28, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and charged with falsifying business records, identity theft, and criminal impersonation, Nassau County police said.

Police alleged this past December and January, Riaz represented himself as a licensed physician when he called several pharmacies to request the fraudulent prescriptions. The prescriptions were filled under the names of several different people, police said.

Riaz was arrested without incident at his home in Hicksville, police said.
