Texas Woman Finds Dog She Lost On Long Island 2 Years Ago
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- After searching for years, a Texas woman will finally be reunited with her dog.
When Lauren Bates, formerly of East Hampton, moved to Texas two years ago, she was forced to leave without her dog, Jessie, that had gone missing a few months earlier.
Bates never gave up hope and has been scouring the Internet and animal rescue group websites in search of her beloved pet ever since.
A few days ago, Jessie popped up on the Guardians of Rescue Facebook page.
"I couldn't sleep...I just started scrolling through Facebook and there she was," Bates told 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera.
Dori Scofield, of Guardians of Rescue, said Jessie was found in an abandoned home in Medford on Monday.
"It was deplorable, this poor dog had been living for weeks in an abandoned house," Scofield said.
Luckily, Jessie had a microchip.
"We scanned her and sure enough the microchip belonged to this woman, Lauren Bates," she said..
The group called the dog Bambi until Bates came forward with real name.
Jessie will be flown to Texas next week.
