Residents Shocked After 9/11 Memorial Vandalized In Long Beach
LONG BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Sept. 11 memorial on Long Island was vandalized overnight.
Bill Murphy, who has tended the memorial in Long beach for about a decade, said that the structure was toppled early Saturday, Newsday reported.
The memorial features plants, ceramic angels and red bows around Christmastime.
Murphy posted an angry handwritten note on a utility pole, calling the vandals "morons" and "awful people."
A neighbor, Patricia Wagner, said the incident made her cry.
Murphy is now vowing to rebuild the memorial and said people have offered to help.
