Liverpool-Man City Draws Nearly 50,000 To Yankee Stadium
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Simon Mignolet saved two penalty kicks and Lucas Leiva scored in the fourth round to lift Liverpool past Manchester City after they tied 2-2 on Wednesday night in an International Champions Cup game.
Liverpool's Raheem Sterling curled in a goal in the 85th minute to tie it at 2 at Yankee Stadium in front of 49,653 fans. Emre Can and Jordan Henderson also converted penalty kicks for Liverpool in the Pool B game.
The match drew a larger crowd than any Yankees game this season, according to ESPN.
Stevan Jovetic scored two goals, for a second consecutive match, for Premier League champion Manchester City. Jesus Navas crossed a ball into the 6-yard box through the legs of Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, and Jovetic touched it home the 53rd minute. A deflected ball fell to his feet in the 67th minute and he punched it under the outstretched arm of Mignolet.
Henderson tied it for Liverpool at 1 when he bent a ball around second-half goalkeeper Joe Hart.
