LIRR's On-Time Performance Gets Worse 4th Year In Row

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Long Island Railroad's on-time performance isn't getting any better.

For a fourth year in a row, the LIRR has gotten worse at getting trains into stations on-time.

"We've basically taken a 15-year step backwords," Long Island Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky told 1010 WINS' Stephanie Colombini.

Kaminsky said he has received countless complaints from commuters tired of waiting around for delayed or canceled trains.

"You know my constituents pay a lot of money, nearly upwards of $300 for a monthly ticket," Kaminsky told 1010 WINS.

A statement from the LIRR said the agency is not entirely to blame for the dip because unexpected events like issues with East River tunnels and traffic accidents have disrupted service.

"The LIRR is not satisfied with the recent trends, and is working to turn them around," the agency said. "But there is reason for optimism that over the long term, the work being done will influence trends in a positive way for many years into the future."
