LIRR Service Resumes Following Axle Derailment On Port Washington Line In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two axles on a Long Island Rail Road train derailed along the Port Washington line Wednesday afternoon, snarling the start of the evening rush.

Between 400 and 500 people were on board the 12:19 train from Penn Station to Port Washington when it happened. No one was hurt.

The LIRR says eastbound service has resumed, with a 5:14 p.m. train from Penn Station to Great Neck, which extends to Port Washington tonight.

The railroad also says westbound service has been restored, with a 5:23 p.m. train from Port Washington expected to arrive at Penn Station at 6 p.m.

NYC Transit is cross-honoring LIRR tickets on the 7 train for service to Woodside and Flushing-Main St.
