LIRR Service Resumes Following Axle Derailment On Port Washington Line In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two axles on a Long Island Rail Road train derailed along the Port Washington line Wednesday afternoon, snarling the start of the evening rush.

Between 400 and 500 people were on board the 12:19 train from Penn Station to Port Washington when it happened. No one was hurt.
We are working to restore normal service on the Port Washington Branch following an earlier derailment. The first through train to Port Washington will be the 5:14 PM train from Penn to Great Neck which will be extended to Port Washington tonight.

We are in the process of resuming westbound Port Washington Branch service following an earlier derailment. The 5:23 PM train from Port Washington will be the first westbound train to run through to Penn Station.

The LIRR says eastbound service has resumed, with a 5:14 p.m. train from Penn Station to Great Neck, which extends to Port Washington tonight.
The railroad also says westbound service has been restored, with a 5:23 p.m. train from Port Washington expected to arrive at Penn Station at 6 p.m.
LIRR customers can anticipate some delays and cancellations during the PM Rush due to a train with two derailed axles west of Woodside. We are running limited E/B shuttle train service between Woodside and Port Washington.

NYC Transit is cross-honoring LIRR tickets on the 7 train for service to Woodside and Flushing-Main St.
