Lincoln Tunnel Accident Causes Delays For NJ TRANSIT Buses
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A chain-reaction crash at the Lincoln Tunnel in the tube leading out of New York City created a traffic standstill on both sides of the Hudson River during Wednesday's morning commute.
Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said a tractor-trailer rear-ended a car, which then struck a box truck around 7:20 a.m.
Outbound lanes were closed until just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
NJ TRANSIT buses faced delays up to an hour into and out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal because of the accident.
The accident occurred inside the outbound north tube of the tunnel. Outbound lanes were closed for about an hour before reopening just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
NJ TRANSIT buses were diverted to Newark's Penn Station and Secaucus Junction. Buses in Bergen County went to the Weehawken Ferry terminal, where passengers boarded NY Waterway ferries.
