Divers To Search For NYC Man Presumed Drowned In Lake George
BOLTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Officials say they'll resume searching Wednesday morning for the body of a 42-year-old New York City man who is believed to have drowned in Lake George.
Fire officials in the town of Bolton say authorities received a report Tuesday afternoon that a man had gone underwater and never resurfaced.
Warren County authorities say the man had been boating with his girlfriend, his son, and his girlfriend's daughter. He began experiencing cramps while swimming.
The man's family unsuccessfully tried to reach him with floating life preservers when he became distressed.
"The water's cold. When the wind is blowing, the air gets chilly and folks have to understand their limitations when they're on the water and respect this body of water," said Lt. Steven Stockdale of the Warren County Sheriff's Office. "It can be unforgiving out here."
The depth of water in that part of the Adirondack lake ranges from 40 feet to 100 feet.
While drowning is suspected, a possible medical problem hasn't been ruled out. The man's name hasn't been released.
Divers suspended the search Tuesday evening.
